MAINTENANCE
Clean any dirt from around the spark plug bases.
Use a spark plug wrench [1] and remove the spark
plugs.
If the spark plug is dirty, clean the spark plug using a
Standard:
spark plug cleaner.
Visually inspect the spark plug. Replace the plug if it is
heavily fouled or the insulator [1] is cracked or chipped.
Check the following and replace if necessary.
– Insulator and sealing washer [2] for damage
– Center electrode [3] and side electrode [4] for wear
– Burning condition, coloration
RECOMMENDED SPARK PLUG:
Standard:
Optional Iridium: IZFR6K-11E (NGK)
Measure the plug gap with a wire-type feeler gauge.
PLUG GAP: 1.00 – 1.10 mm (0.039 – 0.043 in)
SERVICE LIMIT:
Optional Iridium: 1.30 mm (0.051 in)
If the measurement is out of the specification, adjust by
Standard:
bending the side electrode.
If the gap is out of specification, replace the plug. Do
Optional Iridium:
not adjust the plug gap.
A loose spark plug can become very hot and can
damage the engine. Overtightening the spark plugs can
damage the threads in the engine.
Install and hand tighten the spark plugs to the cylinder
head, then tighten the spark plugs to the specified
torque.
TORQUE: 18 N·m (1.8 kgf·m, 13 lbf·ft)
Install the direct ignition coils and bolt/washers.
Connect the 3P connector to the direct ignition coil.
Install the plug maintenance cover (page 6-4) and
engine cover.
