10.7 Synchronization Processed by CP Section
The following four sources of HSync and VSync are used in the CP core:
• ESDP block
The sync extracted by the ESDP section are used directly by the CP core when the part runs
in ESDP mode.
• Sync slicer section
The sync output by the sync slicers are optionally routed to the CP section via the SSPD
block.
• External CSync or HSync and VSync
The external CSync or HSync and VSync are optionally routed to the CP section via the
SSPD block
• HDMI section, which is also a DE signal to the CP
The sync output from the HDMI section are optionally routed to the CP section via the SSPD
block
10.7.1 Sync Extracted by ESDP Block
The ESDP block extracts syncs by examining the ADC data. This block is used for 525i/625i and
525p/625p component inputs to provide robustness against nonstandard input signals. For example,
in the case of a VCR connected to an AV switcher box, the output of the switcher box might be
component (interlaced or progressive) but could still contain the same poor time base signals
typically found from VCR sources.

As shown in
Figure
80, when ESDP mode is enabled by setting
is performed on the input to the ADC under the control of the ESDP block. The ESDP block extracts
HSync and VSync from the incoming data stream and passes these sync signals to a mux at the input
to the CP core. It also performs digital fine clamping on the data stream. When the ESDP block is not
being used (e.g. for HD component inputs or graphics inputs),
mux passes data from the output of the DPP block to the CP core, allowing the ESDP block to be
fully powered down by setting
