– Top up coolant through the neck of the expansion reservoir,
until it reaches the max. marking.
– Switch off the heater unit and air conditioning unit.
– Start engine and run at a speed of approx. 1500 rpm for max.
2 minutes. When doing so, fill coolant into the expansion tank
up to the max. marking.
– Tighten the cap of the coolant expansion reservoir.
Vehicles without auxiliary heating.
– Run engine until fan starts.
Vehicles with auxiliary heating
Caution
The auxiliary heating must only be switched on, if the refriger‐
ant circuit is filled up -as described below-.
– Connect vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information
system - VAS 5051- .
– Start the engine and maintain the engine speed for about 3
minutes at approx. 2000 r.p.m.
– On the display press consecutively the buttons for "Vehicle
self-diagnosis", "18 - Auxiliary heating system" and "03 - Ac‐
tuator diagnosis".
– Press the right arrow on the display so often until the coolant
shut-off valve of heating system - N279- is shown.
– Perform self-diagnosis for the coolant shut-off valve of heating
system - N279- and maintain the engine speed at approx.
2000 rpm for about 1 minute.
– Run engine until fan starts.
Continued for all vehicles
– Check coolant level when the expansion reservoir is closed.
When engine is at operating temperature the coolant level
must be at the maximum marking, when engine is cold be‐
tween the minimum and the maximum markings.
WARNING
Hot steam may escape when the expansion reservoir is
opened. Wear safety goggles and safety clothing to avoid eye
injuries and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open
carefully.
– If necessary, top up with coolant.
Further installation occurs in reverse order.
