Installing toothed belt (adjusting tim‐
ings):
Caution
The following work sequence must be followed precisely.
♦ If a final test is omitted, for example, and the pins are not
reinserted, there is a risk that the timing will not be set
correctly and the vehicle will have poor driving perform‐
ance and uneven idling.
Lock camshaft with securing pins - 3359- or -MP 1-301- .
Crankshaft is locked with crankshaft arrester - T10050- or
crankshaft arrester - T10100- .
Tensioning pulley is locked with rig pin - T10265- and fixed
with fixing nut to the right stop.
Note
Only ever perform adjustment work on the toothed belt on a
cold engine.
When rotating the camshaft, the crankshaft must not be posi‐
tioned at TDC for any piston. Risk of damaging valves and
pistons.
– Slightly screw in screws -arrows-.
Toothed belt sprockets must still turn on the hubs, but must
not tilt.
– Turn toothed belt sprockets clockwise in the elongated holes
as far as the stop.
– Fit toothed belt onto crankshaft toothed belt sprocket, tension‐
ing pulley, large guide pulley and then finally the coolant pump
toothed belt sprocket.
Set the tension of the timing belt as follows:
– Loosen the fastening nut of the tensioning pulley and remove
the rig pin - T10265- from the tensioning pulley.
– Check the correct fitting of the tensioning pulley in the hole in
the rear timing belt guard -arrow-.
