Exhaust gas recirculation system

2.1
Removing and installing exhaust gas re‐
circulation system parts for engines with
code BKD, AZV
Note
The exhaust gas recirculation system is operated by the en‐
gine control unit - J248 - via the EGR valve - N18- integrated
into the valve block for the mechanical exhaust gas recircula‐
tion valve.
The mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve with cone-
shaped valve plunger makes it possible to achieve different
opening cross-sections at different opening strokes.
Any desired valve plunger position is possible as a result of
the pulsed operation.
The exhaust gas recirculation switches off at idling speed after
about two minutes.
When taking longer measurements, restart the engine or in‐
crease engine speed briefly to more than 1500 rpm. After this
repeat the measurement.
Secure all hose connections with corresponding hose clips.
Replace self-locking nuts.
