If there are functional problems of the fuel delivery unit suction off
fuel with fuel extraction device, e.g. -VAS 5190- .
Work procedure
Note
Safety precautions when working on the fuel supply system

Observe the regulations concerning cleanliness when working

on the fuel supply/injection system
– Switch off ignition and pull out ignition key.
– Removing rear seat bench ⇒ Body Work ⇒ Rep. gr. 72 .
– Remove the cover from the fuel delivery unit.
Note
On vehicles with auxiliary heating, the plug connection for the
dosing pump - V54- must also be disconnected.
– Unplug the 5-pin connector -1- and the black fuel feed line
-2-.
Note
On vehicles with four-wheel drive, the position of the plugs and

the fuel lines is different.
Press in the securing ring in order to unlock the line.

– Connect adapters -V.A.G 1318/16- and -V.A.G 1318/17 - and
fit this "drain pipe" onto the feed support of the fuel delivery
unit.
– Hold the "drain pipe" in a suitable catch pan for fuel.
– Connect the battery and the contacts of the fuel pump with

1594/C- as follows:
Battery positive terminal (+) to contact -1- of the fuel pump.
Battery negative terminal (-) to contact -5- of fuel pump.
The fuel pump runs and suctions off fuel.
WARNING
In order to prevent an overflow of fuel in case of a too small
fuel tank, the fuel pump must not run unattended.
