Description
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller is capable of 10BASE-
T half-duplex operation, and returns a 1 when bit 11 of the
MII Status register is read.
• 1 = 10BASE-T half-duplex capable
• 0 = Not 10BASE-T half-duplex capable.
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller is not capable of
100BASE-T2 full-duplex operation, and returns a 0 when
bit 10 of the MII Status register is read.
• 1 = 100BASE-T2 full-duplex capable
• 0 = Not 100BASE-T2 full-duplex capable
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller is not capable of
100BASE-T2 half-duplex operation, and returns a 0 when
bit 9 of the MII Status register is read.
• 1 = 100BASE-T2 half-duplex capable
• 0 = Not 100BASE-T2 half-duplex capable.
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller contains the extended
status register at Reg_Addr = 0Fh, and returns a 1 when
bit 8 of the MII Status register is read.
• 1 = Extended status information in reg 0Fh
• 0 = No extended status information in reg 0Fh
Ignore on read
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller accepts MII
management frames whether or not they are preceded by
the preamble pattern, and returns a 1 when bit 6 of the
status register is read. The preamble is still required on
the first read or write.
• 1 = Preamble can be suppressed
• 0 = Preamble always required
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller returns a 1 on bit 15 of
the Auxiliary Status Summary Register (see
Status Summary Register (PHY_Addr = 0x1, Reg_Addr =
19h)" on page
450) when auto-negotiation has
completed and the contents of registers 4, 5, and 6 are
valid. This bit returns a 0 while auto-negotiation is in
progress.
• 1 = Auto-negotiation complete
• 0 = Auto-negotiation in progress
The BCM5722 Ethernet controller returns a 1 on bit 4 of
the MII Status register when its link partner has signalled
a remote fault condition. When a remote fault occurs, the
bit is latched at 1 and remains so until the register is read,
and the remote fault condition has been cleared.
• 1 = Remote fault detected
• 0 = No remote fault detected
performing IEEE auto-negotiation, and returns a 1 when
bit 3 of the MII Status register is read, regardless of
whether the auto-negotiation function has been disabled.
• 1 = Auto-negotiation capable
• 0 = Not auto-negotiation capable
