Configuring a ping

Configuring a ping
The controller can verify its link with other controllers and associated Clients by sending ping
packets to the associated device. Use a ping to test the connection between the controller and IP
destinations you specify. For each ping packet transmitted, statistics are gathered for the round-trip
time (RTT) between the controller and its destination. The RTT is the time (in milliseconds) for a
ping packet to travel from the controller to its target destination and back again. This number can
vary significantly due to the random nature of packet routings and random loads on the controller
and its destination.
To view the controller's existing ping configuration:
1. Select Diagnostics > Ping from the main menu.
2. Refer to the following information displayed within the Configuration tab:
516
Description
Displays the user assigned description of the ping test. The name is read-only. Use
this title to determine whether this test can be used as is or if a new ping test is
required.
Destination IP
Displays the IP address of the target device. This is the numeric destination for the
device sent the ping packets. If this address does not accurately reflect the ping
destination target, the ping test will not be successful.
Timeout (sec)
Displays the timeout value (in seconds) used to timeout the ping test if a round trip
packet is not received from the target device.
