REFINISHING PLASTIC EXTERIOR COMPONENTS (SMC)
WARNING: Ensure that there is adequate venti-
lation and avoid breathing the vapor or spray
mist. The use of a fresh-air supplied respirator
is recommended. Wear the respirator for the
entire time of spraying and until all vapor and
mist have dissipated.
Replacement Hard Top Panel (SMC)
Wash the replacement panel with denatured
alcohol.
Scuff sand the panel surface area with a doub-
le-action sander and 240 grit sandpaper or use
320 wet or dry sandpaper.
Clean the panel surface area with a wax and
grease removal solution (Ditzler DX-330, Sik-
kens M-600 or an equivalent product).
Tack and prime the panel surface area with Dit-
zler DP 40/401 Epoxy Chromate Primer accord-
ing to the manufacture's instructions.
Apply a primer surfacer and prepare the panel
surface area for paint (i.e., sand, clean and
tack).
Apply the top coat to the panel surface area.
NOTE: If the top has been repaired and the
texture has been removed, an additive such as
Ditzler DX-1507 can be added to the paint and
sprayed on the repaired area to produce the
textured appearance.
