ENGINE AND CYLINDER BLOCK ASSEMBLY
Crankshaft seal, gearbox end: Removal - Refitting
M9R, and 742 or 744 or 746 or 748 or 754 or 800 or 802 or 806 or 808 or 816
a Use SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consuma-
bles - Products) to clean and degrease:
- the joint face of the crankshaft cover on the cylinder
block,
- the crankshaft seal mating face.
a Always replace the crankshaft "seal - cover" assem-
bly.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a
Note:
T ouching the lip of the seal is strictly forbidden.
Any contact with it will result in the lip being per-
manently damaged, which will cause an oil leak.
a Fit:
- the new « seal protector - seal - cover » assembly
on the crankshaft,
- the bolts (1) (M6 - 90 mm long) to guide the crank-
shaft "seal - cover" assembly.
a Move the "seal - cover" assembly evenly by hand
until it makes contact with the cylinder block.
a Remove:
- the seal protector (2) ,
- the guide bolts (3) .

a Pretighten in order and to torque the crankshaft
cover bolts (initial torque) (5 N.m) (4) and (7) .
a Torque tighten in order the crankshaft cover bolts
(10 N.m).
