TOP AND FRONT OF ENGINE
Cylinder head: Removal - Refitting
M9R
a Press the heads of the hydraulic tappets to check
that they are filled with oil before refitting them.
a If the piston pushes in, immerse the hydraulic tappet
in a container of diesel fuel to reprime it.
a Check that the valve rocker clips (15) are in place.
a Lubricate the hydraulic tappet housings on the cylin-
der head with engine oil.
a Refit the hydraulic tappet - valve rocker assemblies
in the cylinder head.
Note:
Check that the valve rockers are correctly posi-
tioned on the valves.
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Refit the air pipe between the EGR cooler control so-
lenoid valve and the EGR cooler.
M9R, and 742 or 744 or 746 or 748
a Refit:
- the new seals on the EGR pipe at the EGR cooler
outlet,
- the EGR pipe at the EGR cooler outlet,
- the bolts of the EGR pipe at the EGR cooler outlet.
a In order, fit (without tightening):
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR solenoid
valve end,
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR cooler end.
M9R, and 754 or 800 or 802 or 803 or 805 or 806
or 808 or 809 or 816 or 845 or 849
a Refit:
- the new EGR pipe at the EGR cooler outlet (check
for the seal on the EGR solenoid valve end),
- the bolts of the EGR pipe at the EGR cooler outlet.
a In order, fit (without tightening):
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR solenoid
valve end,
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR cooler end.

a Tighten the following in order:
- if removed, the bolts of the EGR solenoid valve
(see Cylinder head: Stripping - Rebuilding) ,
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR solenoid
valve end,
- the bolts of the EGR pipe on the EGR cooler end.
