2.13 Shifting of gears

2.13.1 General information

On tractors "BELARUS-80.1/82.1/820" with basic configuration a mechanical fixed ra-
tio double-range gearbox is installed with one lever located to the right hand of the operator,
with ranges and gears shifting lever with mechanical gear reduction unit (GB 18F+4R). Upon
request tractors "BELARUS- 80.1/82.1/820 can be equipped with the following transmis-
sions configurations:
- with mechanical gearbox and a synchronized gear reduction unit (GB 18F+4R);
- with mechanical gearbox and reverse-reduction gear (GB 9F+9R).
2.13.2 Gear shifting in transmission with mechanical gearbox and mechanical or
synchronized gear reduction unit.
The control elements of mechanical gearbox with a mechanical or synchronized
gear reduction unit are shown in figure 2.13.1.
1 – diagram of gearbox gear reduction unit stages shifting; 2 – lever to control gear-
box gear reduction unit; 3 – lever to shift gearbox ranges and gears; 4 – diagram of gear-
box ranges and gears shifting.
Shifting of gears is carried out by two levers: gearbox ranges and gears shifting
lever 3 (figure 2.13.1) and gear reduction unit control lever 2.
Selection of the required ranges, gears and stages of the reduction gear unit (re-
ducing gearing stage – symbol is "turtle", accelerator gearing stage – symbol is "hare") is
carried out in accordance with shifting diagrams 4 and 1, as shown in figure 2.13.1.
Ranges and gears shifting is carried out by one lever 3, with range (I or II) actuated
at the beginning, then the lever is shifted into position "N", and the selected gear is en-
gaged.
Lever to control mechanical gear reduction unit 2 during tractor operation has to be
in the engaged (fixed) position: backward – accelerator gearing stage ("hare"), or forward –
reducing gearing stage ("turtle").
Lever to control a synchronized gear reduction unit 2 during tractor operation has to
be in the engaged (fixed) position: backward – reducing gearing stage ("turtle"), or forward
– accelerator gearing stage ("hare").
It is possible to keep the lever of the gear reduction unit in a neutral (middle non-
fixed) position to facilitate starting the engine at low temperatures.
