Drive gear of the main gear 36 (figure 3.10.4) is installed in cage 29 on two bevel
roller bearings. Preload in bearings is adjusted by means of adjusting washers 30, where-
after tightening with nut 33 should be carried out. Driven gear 19 is mounted on splines
and centering band of the body of differential 18 and is locked by nut 20 against axial
movement.
Adjustment of meshing of the main gear is provided by shims 28, 15 installed be-
tween flange of the drive gear cage and the FDA body, as well as between left and right
tube and the FDA body accordingly. Before adjustment of meshing adjustment of differen-
tial bearings 42 is carried out, which is done by shims 15.
Left 14 and right tube 22 connected to FDA body 21 by bolts form axle beam. The
FDA body is provided with breather 17, maintaining normal pressure in the cavity of the
axle beam and main gear.
Filling of oil in the axle beam is carried out up to the lower edge of filler hole through
plugs 41 installed in tube 14 and 22. Oil drain from the axle beam is carried out by un-
screwing drain plug 26 in the FDA body. Filling through the hole in one of the tubes is car-
ried out until oil in the second tube reaches lower edge of the filler hole. Filling of the FDA
shall be carried out on a horizontal surface.
Hole for plug 25 serves for checking of the adjustment of the main gear meshing.
Oil leakage from the main gear cavity and axle beam is prevented by the gaskets
and rubber rings, mounted in the cages, tube and in the drive gear cage.
To prevent formation of oil backing in front of the gasket of the drive gear, wiper ring
31 is installed on its spline end. Over the outer diameter of the ring spiral grooves are cut.
In cage 12 sliding bearing with crisscross grooves is installed.
Body 21 of the front driving axle is connected to the beam by two hollow axes 24,
on which the axle together with wheels can oscillate in transverse plane, deviating for an-
gles limited by stops of ribs in tubes 14 and 22 when they contact tractor beam. Axes are
locked by planks 23 against axial movement.

3.10.2.2 Wheel gear group of planetary spur type

Wheel gear groups of planetary spur type are designed to transmit torque from the
FDA differential to drive steering wheels. The composition of the wheel gear group of
planetary spur type is shown in figure 3.10.5.
The wheel gear groups are mounted in casings 35 (figure 3.10.5) and are connect-
ed to the axle beam by means of axes 3 (figure 3.10.4) and can turn relative to the FDA
beam on two bearings 9. Connection of axes with the wheel gear group casing is carried
out by bolts 4. Screw 38 and locknut 37 serve for adjustment of turning angle of the wheel
gear groups.
Greasing of axes pivots is carried out through grease fittings 6, installed on the ax-
es. The grease fittings are protected against dirt entry by rubber caps 5. To prevent dirt
entry to the pivot bearings cups 8 with sealing rubber rings 7 are mounted in the axle
beam tubes. Adjustment of pivot bearings 9 is carried out by shims 2, located only under
upper axes 3.
Wheel gear group 1 consists of twin joint 24 (figure 3.10.5), of spur and planetary
gear, wheel flange 1, levers and brackets of front wheels 43, 44 (figure 3.10.4) steering
control.
