3.1.3 External part of the engine cooling system
The engine cooling system is liquid, of enclosed-type, with forced circulation of the
cooling liquid from the centrifugal pump, by the thermostat. It includes a cooling jacket, wa-
ter pump, water radiator 7 (figure 3.1.5) with steam-outlet and expansion pipe 16, oil radi-
ator 2, connection lines, oil lines 4, fan, expansion tank 5, connection hoses, clamps, drain
cock 10, expansion tank plug 6. Thermal condition of the engine is controlled by the ther-
mostat. Water radiator of the cooling system is ribbed tube. The water radiator plug has
vapor and air valves.
Operation range of the cooling system is from 80 to 98С. A short-term (up to 10
min) temperature increase up to 100 С is allowed. The temperature of the cooling liquid
is monitored by the cooling liquid temperature gauge and the engine cooling liquid emer-
gency temperature warning lamp in the instrument board. Emergency warning of cooling
liquid temperature actuates within the limits from 102 to 109С.
Mounting of the external part elements of the engine Д-243 (Д-243С) cooling sys-
tem is shown in figure 3.1.5.
