3.4 Rear axle

3.4.1 General information

Rear axle shown in figure 3.4.1. consists of the following elements:

-main gear;

-differential;
-final drives.
1 – Drive gear of final drive right; 2 – planetary gear washer; 3 – differential cross; 4 – plane-
tary gear; 5 – housing of the differential; 6 – driven gear of the main gear; 7 – driven gear retaining
nut; 8 – locking plate; 9 – differential housing cover; 10 – tapered roller bearing; 11 – tight-fitting bolt;
12 – drive gear of final drive left; 13 – driven gear of final drive; 14 – bearing; 15 – hatch cover; 16 –
rear axle housing; 17 – tube of axle shaft; 18 – connection disc with linings assembled; 19 – inter-
mediate disc; 20 – spring; 21 – throw-out disk;
25 – tube cover; 26 – bearing;
er; 29 – membrane; 30 – adapting pipe; 31 – locking shaft assembled; 32 – gasket; 33 – shell; 34 –
lock-up clutch body; 35 – cup cover; 36 – bearing; 37 – cup of bearings; 38 – adjusting shims; 39 – sup-
porting washer; 40 – axle shaft gear; 41 – drive gear of the main gear; 42 – secondary shaft of the
gearbox; 43 – rear axle cover.
3.4.2 Main gear
Main gear is a pair of bevel gears with spiral teeth. Drive gear of the main gear 41
(figure 3.4.1) is mounted on spline shank of secondary shaft 42 of the gearbox, and driven
gear of the main gear 6 is attached to the flange of differential housing 5 by twelve half
tight-fitting bolts.
Tapered roller bearings 10 shall be adjusted tight. Force, applied to outer end face
of the teeth of driven gear 6 of the main gear for turning the differential in the bearings
