3.10.1.4 Adjustment of FDA with bevel wheel gear groups

3.10.1.4.1 Adjustment of bearings of the main gear drive gear
Bearings 26 (figure 3.10.1) shall be adjusted so, that there is no axial play in them,
preload not more than 0,05 mm in bearings 26 is allowed.
Adjust the bearings in the following sequence:
- tighten bearings 26 with nut 25 against the stop. When tightening, rotate the gear
by the flange to ensure that the bearing rollers are in the correct position, the resistance
torque of the gear shall be between 0.6 and 2 Nꞏm;
- measure axial play of the bearings. If there is axial play contact your dealer to re-
move the play by grinding one of the adjusting rings 21.
3.10.1.4.2 Adjustment of differential bearings and main gear meshing
Adjustment of the main gear meshing should be carried out only with adjusted bear-
ings of the differential.
Adjust differential bearings and the main gear meshing in the following sequence:
- by selecting the required number of adjusting shims 9 (figure 3.10.2), set the size
between the axle of the drive gear 11 and body of differential 5 in the range from 40.55 to
40.85 mm. Diametrical shims 9 should have the same thickness;
- adjust axial play of differential bearings 11 with the help of selection of the required
number of adjusting shims 4 (figure 3.10.1) between the flanges of body 8 and FDA cover
2. Axial play in adjusted bearings 11 shall be not more than 0,1 mm. Diametrical shims 4
shall have the same thickness. When tightening mounting bolts of body 8 turn differential
9, so that rollers of bearings 11 are in the correct position in the bearing cages. Check of
play in bearings 11 is carried out by the indicator, mounted on the crown of driven gear 7
by means of axial movement of differential 9 to the right or to the left with removed drive
gear cage 20;
- carry out adjustment of the main gear meshing by installation of the corresponding
number of split adjusting shims 4 (figure 3.10.1) between the flanges of body 8 and FDA
cover 2. Diametrical shims 18 shall have the same thickness. Main gear backlash shall be
within the range from 0,18 to 0,46 mm. When measuring the main gear backlash lock driv-
en gear 7 against turning with a special tool, using threaded hole for filler and control plug
14 in FDA body 8. There should be no axial play of drive gear 17. Replace worn out gears
only in pairs.
3.10.1.4.3 Adjustment of meshing of upper bevel gear and pinion of the final drive
wheel gear group
Backlash in the meshing of the upper bevel gear and pinion shall be within 0,10 to
0,45 mm. Carry out adjustment of meshing in the following sequence:
1. Check bearing play in the bearings of half axle 16 (figure 3.10.3) and vertical
shaft 30. Axial play in bearings shall be within the limit from 0,05 to 0,15 mm. If this condi-
tion is not fulfilled adjust bearings by performing the following operations:
- tighten nuts 20 and 27 hard and then release them 1/15 -1/10 turns;
- unstake nut collar in the shaft groove.
