6.4.6.3 Operation 70 Check of nozzles for injection-point pressure and fuel spray
condition
The nozzle is considered to be in operating condition if it spays fuel in the form of
fog from all the five openings of the atomizer, without separate drops flying out, or any
continuous flows or splashes. Start and end of the injection shall be accurate, no drops
shall appear on the atomizer's head.
ATTENTION: CHECK AND, IF NECESSARY, ADJUSTMENT AND CLEANING OF
NOZZLES SHALL BE CARRIED OUT ONLY ON A STAND IN SPECIALIZED WORK-
SHOP OF A DEALER!
Remove nozzles from the engine by doing the following:
- before detaching or releasing any parts of fuel system, fully clean the adjacent op-
erating surface;
- undo nuts 4 (Figure 6.4.62) and detach high pressure fuel pipes 5 from nozzles 3
and the fuel pump;
- undo four bolts 1 of drain line and remove drain fuel pipe 2. Cast out defective
copper sealing washers (two washers for each banjo bolt);
- undo bolts 6 that attach nozzles and remove nozzles 3;
- send the nozzles for maintenance to the dealer's workshop;
- installed nozzles that have been checked and adjusted by repeating the above
listed operations in reverse order.
- bleed the fuel system as indicated in section 6.4.5.15 "Operation 62. Check / tighten-
ing of cylinder head fastening bolts."
ATTENTION: USE NEW COPPER WASHERS FOR EACH MOUNTING OF THE
NOZZLES!
Note – It is useful to have a spare set of nozzles that have been checked and ad-
justed, for their quick installation on the engine.
