shall be within the limits from 30 to 50 N when measured after differential turning 4 ... 5 full
turns. When tightening bearings it is necessary to turn the differential time after time. The
adjustment shall be carried out in the following sequence:
- install two sets of adjusting shims under the flange of the right cup, after that
tighten bolts with a torque from 80 to 100 N•m;
- while picking out adjusting shims 38 under left cup flange of bearings 37 set the
required tightness in the bearings.
Basic backlash in the main gear in gear meshing shall be from 0,2 to 0,55 mm but
not more than 0,25 mm for one pair. Lateral backlash in meshing is checked by the indica-
tor, acting on the tooth of the driven gear in not less than in its three positions. Gear edge
contact shall be not less 50 % of the tooth surface. The location of the imprint shall be in
its middle part or closer to the vertex of the cone. If the imprint is not satisfying it is neces-
sary to check the positioning of the drive gear and adjust its position. Adjustment of the
gears shall be carried out only after adjustment of the tapered roller bearings.
ATTENTION: WORN OUT GEARS OF THE MAIN GEAR SHALL BE ONLY RE-
PLACED IN A PAIR. REPLACEMENT OF ONE GEAR IS NOT ALLOWED!

3.4.3 Differential

The differential consists of housing 5 and cover 9 (figure 3.4.1), cross 3, four washers
of planetary gear 2, two axle shaft gears 40 and two supporting washers 39 of the axle
shaft gears.
Housing and cover of the differential are connected by two tight-fitting bolts 11, which
are locked in pairs by lock wire when rotated. Holes for the cross installation are machined
after assembly of the housing with the cover of the differential. That is why on the housing
and the cover of the differential marking is done by way of application of one and the same
sequence number. When assembling the differential it is necessary to combine these
numbers on mating parts.
Teeth of planetary gears 4 are in constant mesh with both axle shaft gears 40. Axle
shaft gears are connected by means of splines to drive gears of final drives 1and 12. Un-
der end faces of axle shaft gears washers 39 made of solid tin bronze are installed. These
washers are fixed by their protrusions in the housing and the cover of the differential so
that they will not rotate.

3.4.4 Final drives

To increase torque and transmit rotation from the differential to tractor drive wheels
final drives are used, which are two pairs of spur gears with straight teeth and are located
on the left and right sides of the rear axle.
Drive gears of final drives 1 and 12 (figure 3.4.1) are made in one piece with spline
shafts and are mounted on two bearings 36 in the borings of cups 37. One spline end of
gears 1 and 12 is connected to axle shaft gears of the differential, the other is used for
mounting connection discs 18 of the brake. Under cup flanges 37 adjusting shims 38 0,2
and 0,5 mm thick are installed. By these shims backlash in tapered roller bearings 10 of
the differential and lateral backlash between teeth of gears of the main gear are adjusted.
Driven gears of the final drives 13 are installed on splines of axle shafts 23, each of
which rotates on two roller bearings 14 and 26. By covers 25 axle shafts are fixed in axial
direction through bearings 26.
