3.10.3.5 Adjustment of the FDA cardan drive
Carry out adjustment of the safety coupling in the cardan drive in the intermediate
bearing and check side play in the bearings of the cardan shaft.
Adjust the safety coupling for transmission of a torque from 400 to 800 N•m. Carry
out adjustment of the coupling by tightening nut 2 (figure 3.10.12) of rear shank 1 of the
intermediate bearing shaft until the required torque is transmitted.
From time to time check side play in the bearings of the universal-joint crosses. If
there is play disassemble the joint and check the condition of the bearings and of the uni-
versal-joint crosses, replace worn out parts. When assembling oil seal cases press them
against the stop into the bearing.
The cardan shaft is dynamically balanced. When replacing parts during operation
(tubes with joint and flange forks) contact your dealer. Do not rotate the cardan shafts with
crow bars, wrenches and other devices to avoid damage to the seals and breakdown of
the bearings of the universal-joint crosses.
