3.3 Gearbox

3.3.1 General information

Gearbox (GB) is an element of the tractor transmission and serves for changing
gear ratio of the transmission and to provide tractor travel direction reverse.
Besides, GB design provides the front driving axle, ground-speed rear and side
semi-continuous power take-off shafts (PTO) drive, as well as provides the possibility of
getting additional speeds on the first and second gear of the forward and reverse move-
ment when the tractor is equipped with the creeper (hydraulic creeper).
On tractors "BELARUS-80.1/82.1/820" the installation of either the creeper (hydrau-
lic creeper) or side semi-continuous PTO is possible. Both the creeper (hydraulic creeper)
and side semi-continuous power take-off shaft are mounted to the left side plain face of the
gearbox instead of the cover. In subsection 3.3 "Gearbox" technical description of the GB
with the creeper drive is given. Drive of the side semi-continuous PTO is presented in sub-
section 3.6 "Side semi-continuous power take-off shaft".
On tractors "BELARUS-80.1/82.1/820" with basic equipment the mechanical
stepped ration double-range GB is installed, with one lever of ranges and gears shifting
with a mechanical gear reduction unit (GB 18F+4R), located at the right hand of the opera-
tor. Against order tractors "BELARUS-80.1/82.1/820" can be equipped with transmissions
with the following configuration:
- with a mechanical GB and a synchronized gear reduction unit (GB 18F+4R);
- with a mechanical GB and a reverse-reduction gear (GB 9F+9R);
GB is a complicated assemblage consisting of mechanisms of two groups. The first
group, mechanical transmissions unit, includes mechanical gear transmissions, which
serve to transmit and transform power flow. The second group, GB control, includes lever
mechanisms, the design of which provides the operator with good control of the GB (selec-
tion of the required gear in the GB, its safe engagement and exclusion of self-shutdown).
Note: On tractors "BELARUS-80.1/82.1" in configuration with canopy base or cano-
py frame on the basis of a small cabin, the range and gears shifting lever of the GB is lo-
cated at the center.

3.3.2.1 Gearbox mechanical gear unit
GB mechanical gear unit consists of coaxial primary 34a and secondary shafts 6,
located in the housing of gearbox 29 (figure 3.3.1) as well as intermediate shaft 32 and 1
gear and reverse movement shaft 27 (figure 3.3.2) parallel to them.
Primary shaft 34a (figure 3.3.1) is mounted on two roller bearings. One of the bear-
ings is located in cup 36a, which is located in the boring of the front wall of GB 29 housing
and is secured to it by means of bolts.
The gearbox mechanical gearbox assembly consists of the primary 34a and sec-
ondary 6 shafts located in gearbox housing 29 (figure 3.3.1), as well as the intermediate
shaft 32 parallel to it and the 1st gear shaft and the reverse gear shaft 27 (figure 3.3.2).
Primary shaft 34a (figure 3.3.1) is mounted on two roller bearings. One of the bear-
ings is located in cup 36a, which is located in the boring of front wall GB housing 29 and is
secured to it by means of bolts. The second is in the boring of secondary shaft 6. On the
splines of the front cantilever arm of the primary shaft driven gear of the gear reduction
unit 35a is mounted. In the span between bearings of the primary shaft double-crown drive
