2. Adjust meshing by selecting the required number of split adjusting shims25 be-
tween pivot tube flanges 12 and body 17 of the upper bevel gear and pinion. Diametrical
shims shall have the same thickness. To check backlash take off cover 15, having drained
oil in accordance with subparagraph 6.4.5.10 "Operation 57. Replacement of oil in the FDA
main gear housing, intermediate bearing of the FDA cardan drive, upper and lower bevel
gears and pinions of the FDA wheel gear groups", then lock one of the gears.
3.10.1.4.4 Adjustment of wheel bearings and meshing of the lower bevel gear and
pinion of the final drive wheel gear group
Backlash between teeth of gears 40 and 37 (figure 3.10.3) shall be from 0,26 to
0,65 mm. Adjust meshing in the following sequence:
1. Check play in bearings 3, installed in bearing body 45. Axial play in bearings shall
not be higher than 0,3 mm. If this condition is not fulfilled, contact your dealer to adjust
bearings by grinding one of the adjusting rings 7, installed between inner cages of bear-
ings 3.
2. Adjust meshing by selecting the required number of split adjusting shims 44 be-
tween the flange of bearing body 45 and cover end of wheel gear group 8. Diametrical
shims 44 shall have the same thickness. To check backlash between teeth of gears 40
and 37 lock one of the gears.
