Y-Axis Guide Rod Installation

Caution: Y-axis guide rods are replaced as an assembly. an assembly
consists of the Y-axis guide rods, support rails and pillow blocks.
The Y-axis guide rod assemblies are replaced in pairs. never replace
only one assembly.
Tools and Materials Required
• Set of basic service tools.
• Replacement Y-axis guide rods as required. Guide rod assembly includes pillow
blocks and support rail. Individual part replacement is not permitted.
• Medium strength threadlocker.
Procedure
1.
Apply a light coat of Krytox to guide rod.
2.
Attach the master guide rod assembly (marked with an "M") to left side of the Y bridge
as viewed from the front of the system with 6 guide rod mount screws - do not tighten
screws at this time.
3.
Attach the slave guide rod assembly (marked with an "S") to right side of the Y bridge as
viewed from the front of the system with 6 guide rod mount screws - do not tighten
screws at this time.
4.
Apply medium strength threadlocker to pillow block mounting screws.
5.
Attach the Y carriage to 4 pillow blocks using mounting screws (4 for each block) -
tighten pillow block mounting screws (See
carriage orientation).

Tighten Guide Rod mounting screws:

Orient the guide rod assembly so that the pillow block mounting
screw holes face Y carriage (See
Do not use medium strength threadlocker on guide rod screws.
This procedure creates a parallel relationship between the two
guide rods.
Slide Y carriage to screw position 6 - tighten screws at position 6.
Slide Y carriage to screw position 1 - tighten screws at position 1.
Slide Y carriage to screw position 5 - tighten screws at position 5.
Slide Y carriage to screw position 2 - tighten screws at position 2.
Slide Y carriage to screw position 4 - tighten screws at position 4.
