Z Lead Screw Removal

Tools and Materials Required
• 3/8-inch open end wrench
• 3/4-inch open end wrench
• 1/8-inch hex key
• 5/32-inch hex key
Procedure
1.
Lower the Z stage to the bottom of its travel.

Power down the system. (See

Remove the upper and lower side panels. (See

Manually lower the Z stage until it is resting on the hard stops.

Remove the Z drive belt. (See

Remove the trantorque coupler and pulley.

Carefully pry off the upper bearing dust cover.
8.
Remove the 4 upper bearing housing screws (1/8-inch hex key).
9.
Remove the upper bearing housing, thrust bearing, shim, Nilos-Ring, spring, and flat
washer from the top of the lead screw shaft.
10.
Remove the four screws that hold the nut mount to the Z stage end plate (3/16-inch hex
key).
11.
Carefully lift the lead screw assembly from the lower frame and remove the lead screw
from the system.
12.
Remove the two shoulder screws (5/32-inch hex key) holding the nut mount to the lead
screw assembly and remove the nut mount from the lead screw assembly.
13.
Follow steps 6 through 12 to remove the second lead screw

Hold the flat of the lead screw (3/8-inch open end wrench).
Loosen the trantorque coupler nut (3/4-inch open end wrench)
and remove the trantorque coupler and pulley from the lead
screw.
