Door
Service
To service the heater fresh air door, heater regu-
lator door or the heater defroster door, the heater
must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled.
Refer to the "Heater Core" and "Blower Motor" Re-
moval and Installation.
HEATER CONTROLS
Removal
(1)
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
(2)
Remove the radio and heater trim bezel from
the front of the instrument panel.
(3) Remove the four screws that mount the control
assembly to the instrument panel.
(4)
From under the instrument panel pull the con-
trol assembly down and disconnect the three control
cables and disconnect the wiring to the blower
switch.
(5) Remove the control assembly.

Installation
(1)
From under the instrument panel connect the
wiring to the blower switch and connect and adjust
the three control cables.
(2)
Position the control assembly in the instrument
panel and install the four mounting screws.
(3) Install the radio and heater trim bezel on the
front of the instrument panel.
(4)
Connect the battery ground cable.
Control Cable Adjustments
(1)
Disconnect the three cables at the heater assem-
bly.
(2)
With the control assembly removed from the in-
strument panel, position the three cables so approxi-
mately

inch of the cable housing extends beyond
the cable clips. The fresh air and temperature control
cables are retained in a double clamp.
(3) Place the top lever of the heater controls in the
middle or "Heat" position. Connect the heater de-
froster cable, top left cable, to the heater defroster
door on the left of the heater assembly while hold-
ing the door in the extreme clockwise position. This
cable should have a loop in the routing which is over
the support gusset and through the yoke of the in-
strument panel support.
(4)
Place the bottom lever of the heater controls in
the extreme left position. Connect the temperature
control cable to the right door of the heater assembly
while holding the door in the extreme clockwise posi-
tion.
(5) Connect the fresh air cable, the unconnected
cable on the top of the control, to the middle door
of the heater assembly while holding the door in the
extreme clockwise position.
