factory and a solvent will wash the lubricant from the
clutch.
The starter clutch outer housing and pinion gear
may be cleaned with a cloth moistened with cleaning
solvent and wiped dry with a clean dry cloth.

Rotate the pinion. The pinion gear should rotate
smoothly in one direction (not necessarily easily), but
should not rotate in the opposite direction. If the
starter clutch unit does not function properly, or the
pinion is worn, chipped or burred, replace the starter
clutch unit.
