ing screws (Fig. 7) and pull the turn signal switch and
switch plate up and out, feeding the wires and cGn-
nectors through the steering column jacket.
(3) Disengage the column jacket lower seal from the
lip on the jacket, and slide the seal down toward the
coupling.

Exert an upward force on the steering shaft to
force the steering column jacket upper bearing and
insulator up and out of the counterbore in the bear-
ing housing. Remove the insulator from the bearing.
NOTE:
Due to the limited space between the joint
and jacket tube on vehicles equipped with power

steering and manual transmission, install the wheel
nut on the steering shaft, then bump the steering
shaft on a wood block to release the bearing and
seal from the jacket tube.

Using snap ring pliers Tool C-3128, remove the
bearing upper snap ring from the upper groove in
the steering shaft.
(6) Using bearing puller Tool C-3891, remove the
steering column upper bearing (Fig. 8).
(7) Remove the lower snap ring and slide the steer-
ing shaft and coupling assembly out of the steering
column jacket.
