I N S T R U M E N T S
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BULB R E P L A C E M E N T
All bulbs in the instrument cluster
are
retained by
sockets which plug-in into the printed circuit. The
bulbs can be reached from under the instrument pan-
el. ,To remove the socket turn
it

turn counter-
clockwise and pull out. For replacement bulb number
see the "Bulb Chart" specifications.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
Models AV-I and AV-2
Removal
NOTE: The instruments and printed circuit can
be
serviced after the cluster is removed from the in-
strument panel.
CAUTION: Disconnect the battery ground cable
be-
fore removing the cluster.
(1)
Cover the steering column jacket tube area be-
tween the steering wheel and the instrument panel
with masking tape to avoid scratching the paint fin-
ish.
(2)
Loosen the steering column clamp screws sev-
eral turns to lower the steering column slightly.
(3) Reach up under the instrument panel and dis-
connect the speedometer cable at the speedometer.
(4)
Remove the four screws visible on the face of
the cluster. Tilt the cluster downward and to the right
and disconnect the lead wires to the ammeter, the
ignition switch multi-connector and the printed cir-
cuit board multi-connector. Remove the cluster to the
work bench for testing or replacing the instruments
or printed circuit board.
Installation
CAUTION: The battery ground cable must
be dis-
connected before installation of cluster.
(1)
Rest the cluster bezel face on the protected area
of the steering column jacket between the steering
wheel and the instrument panel.
(2)
Connect the lead wires to the ignition switch,
printed circuit, and ammeter. Tighten all connections
securely to insure proper electrical contact.
(3)
Roll the cluster into position in the instrument
panel and install the four cluster attaching screws.
(4)
Reach under the instrument panel and connect
the speedometer cable to the speedometer.
(5)
Tighten the steering column clamp screws.
(6)
Connect the battery ground cable.
(7) Test the cluster instrument operation.
Models AR-I and AR-2
NOTE: Disconnect the battery ground cable before
servicing the cluster.
(1) Disconnect the speedometer cable from the

Remove the four mounting screws from the
steering column opening cover in the instrument pan-
el.
(3) Remove the mounting screw on steering column
strap and the two screws on the steering column
brace to allow steering column to drop.
(4)
Remove the heater temperature control knob.
(5)
Remove the two screws from the heater control
(6)
Remove the four instrument cluster mounting
(7)
Roll the cluster out to allow removal of the

Remove the two printed circuit board plugs and

Installation
(1) Position the instrument cluster in front of the
cluster opening in the instrument panel and connect
the two printed circuit board plugs, alternator gauge
wires, heater switch vacuum hoses, heater control

ble, and the two wires to the heater control switch.
(2)
Roll the cluster into the instrument panel open-
ing and install the four mounting screws.
(3)
Install the heater control bezel.
(4)
Install the temperature control knob.
(5)
Position the steering column to the steering

Removal
NOTE: For vehicles with automatic transmission
DO NOT drop the steering column before discon-
necting the gear indicator link.
The instruments and gauges are contained in two
clusters. The instrument cluster contains the temper-
ature, fuel and ammeter (alternator) gauges. The
speedometer cluster contains the speedometer, oil
pressure indicator and high beam indicator.
Speedometer Cluster
(1) Disconnect the battery ground cable.
(2)
Remove the steering column cover plate.
(3)
Disconnect the gear shift indicator link at the
shift
tube
bracket
and disconnect the back-up lamp
switch wiring,
if
equipped with automatic transmis-
sion.
