(2) Disconnect the steering gear arm from the sec-

tor shaft with Tool (2-3646 (Fig. 3).

(3) Slide the threaded adapter SP-3609 of Tool

(2-3880 over the end of the gear shaft and thread the

tool nut SP-3610 on the gear shaft. Maintain pressure

on the threaded adapter with the tool nut while screw-

ing the adapter far enough to engage the metal por-

tion of the grease retainer. Place the two half rings

SP-1932, and Tool retainer ring over both portions of

the tool, (Fig. 22). Turn the tool nut counterclockwise

to withdraw the grease retainer from the housing.

(4) Remove the oil seal snap ring with pliers Tool

C-3229 and remove the seal back-up washer.

Use Tool C-3880 in the same manner as out-

lined in step (3) to remove the inner seal.

Place tool adapter SP-3828 with the long step

of adapter against the new seal and slide

shaft with seal lip toward housing (Fig. 23). Install tool
