Clean the valve shim contact area in the valve lifter
wi1h compressed air.
Measure the shim thickness and record it.

Calculate the new shim thickness using the equa­
tion below.
A= (8- C) + D
A: New shim lhickness
8: Recorded valve clearance
C: Specified valve clearance
D: Old shim lhickness
• Make sure of the correct shim thickness by mea­
suring the shim by micrometer.
• Reface the valve seat if carbon deposit result in a
calculated dimension of over 2.900 mm.
Install the newly selected shim
Install the shims

and valve lifters
Apply molybdenum disulfide oil to the valve lifters.

Install the valve lifters into the valve lifter holes.

Install the camshaft (page 8-26).
Rotate the camshafts by rotating the crankshaft
clockwise several times.
Recheck the valve clearance.
