3.3 Basic RIP Configuration

3.3.1 Configuration Prerequisites
Before configuring basic RIP functions, perform the following tasks:
Configuring the link layer protocol
Configuring the network layer addresses of interfaces so that adjacent nodes are
reachable to each other at the network layer

3.3.2 Configuring Basic RIP Functions

I. Enabling RIP globally and on the interface of a specified network segment

Note:
RIP can be enabled on an interface only after it has been enabled globally.
RIP operates on the interface of a network segment only when it is enabled on the
interface. When RIP is disabled on an interface, it does not operate on the
interface, that is, it neither receives/sends routes on the interface nor forwards its
interface route. Therefore, after RIP is enabled globally, you must also specify its
operating network segments to enable it on the corresponding interfaces.
The network 0.0.0.0 command is used to enable RIP on all interfaces.
