7.10 Configuring Multi-Topology for IPv4 IS-IS
By configuring multi-topology on an IS-IS network, you can properly allocate network
resources.
7.10.1 Before You Start
Before configuring multi-topology for IPv4 IS-IS, familiarize yourself with the usage scenario,
complete the pre-configuration tasks, and obtain the data required for the configuration.
Applicable Environment
In traditional IP networks, there is only one unicast topology and one unicast forwarding table
on each device. In this case, service flows with the same destination IP address share the same
PHB. This means that various end-to-end services (for example, voice services and data services)
share the same physical links. As a result, some links may be heavily congested, whereas some
other links are relatively idle. Different types of services have different QoS requirements, which
cannot be met in the traditional unicast topology.
Multi-topology for IS-IS enables the operation of multiple independent logical topologies in an
IS-IS AS, and sets up an independent multicast topology for multicast services. In this manner,
the multicast topology is separated from the unicast topology.
Configuring multi-topology for IS-IS will help customers construct networks flexibly and reduce
cost for network construction.
