Adjusting BGP Route Convergence Speed
BGP route convergence speed is an important indicator used in evaluating network performance.
Multiple solutions can be deployed on the NE80E/40E to adjust BGP route convergence speed.
Table 8-5
Issue 02 (2014-09-30)
Objective
To reduce the size of a
routing table and the
number of routes that
need to be transmitted
to BGP peers.
To suppress route
flapping caused by
specific routes.
To improve the
efficiency of BGP
route transmission.
To improve the
efficiency of BGP
message transmission.

Feature
Multiple routes can be
summarized. After the
aggregation, a router
can advertise only
summarized routes to
BGP peers.
Based on an IP prefix
list, BGP ORF allows
BGP routes to be
advertised as required.
Routes to be advertised
are filtered by the
export policy.
Therefore, only routes
that peers need are
advertised to peers.
Path MTU auto
discovery discovers the
smallest MTU on a
path for the
Transmission Control
Protocol (TCP) to
transmit BGP
messages. This feature
prevents BGP
messages from being
re-fragmented during
transmission.

Note
The NE80E/40E
supports automatic and
manual aggregation.
Manual aggregation
can be used to control
the attributes of the
summarized route and
determine whether to
advertise specific
routes.
Currently, only IP
prefix list-based export
policies are supported.
