2. USE OF THE ETHERNET-BASED SNMP INTERFACE IS RECOMMENDED
ONLY FOR ADVANCED USERS. ALL OTHER USERS ARE STRONGLY
ENCOURAGED TO USE THE CDM-570A HTTP INTERFACE FOR MONITOR
AND CONTROL (M&C) OF THE CDM-570A/570AL.
3. Unless otherwise specified, "CDM-570A/570AL" is used throughout this
chapter to refer to the CDM-570A (70/140 MHz) and CDM-570AL or
CDMR-570AL (L-Band) Satellite Modems.
7.1.1 Ethernet Management Interface Protocols
The user PC facilitates access to Ethernet-based remote monitor and control (M&C) of the
CDM-570A/570AL through separately-operated protocols:
•
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This non-secure interface requires a
user-supplied Network Management System (NMS) and a user-supplied Management
Information Base (MIB) File Browser.
•
Telnet Interface. This requires use of a user-supplied terminal emulation program such as
HyperTerminal (recommended for use with the serial-based remote control protocol) or
PuTTY (recommended for use for use with the Packet Processor Telnet Command Line
Interface), installed on the user PC.
•
The CDM-570A HTTP (Web Server) Interface. This non-secure interface requires a
compatible user-supplied Web browser such as Internet Explorer.
7.2
SNMP Interface
An SNMP is an Internet-standard protocol for managing devices on IP networks. An SNMP
managed network consists of three key components:
•
The managed device. This includes the CDM-570A/570AL Satellite Modem.
•
The SNMP Agent. The software that runs on the CDM-570A/570AL. The CDM-570A
SNMP Agent supports both SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c.
•
The user-supplied NMS. The software that runs on the manager.

the firmware has been identified using either the CDM-570A/570AL
Serial Interface or the CDM-570A HTTP Interface 'Admin | Access'
page, respectively.
