Chapter 9. OPTIONAL PACKET
PROCESSOR – SERIAL/TELNET
9.1
Overview
The Serial/Telnet CLI is a user menu system that allows configuration and monitor and control
(M&C) of the CDM-570A/570AL Satellite Modem and its optional High-Performance Packet
Processor through use of a user-supplied terminal emulator (e.g., HyperTerminal, TeraTerm,
PuTTY, etc.) or Windows Telnet Client.
The CLI allows full configuration and M&C of the CDM-570A/570AL in addition to
using the front panel menus or the CDM-570A HTTP (Web Server) Interface. See
these chapters for further explanations of available modem operations:

Chapter 7. ETHERNET-BASED REMOTE PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
Certain configuration menu selections (e.g., CnC) are functional only when that
FAST feature has been purchased and enabled for operation. This chapter
documents the CLI as if all available options are installed – your configuration
may or may not provide the level of functionality as described in this chapter.
9.1.1
Access to the CLI
•
For Serial connection via a terminal emulator – You must physically connect the User
PC's 9-pin serial port to the RJ-11 'Console' port of the Packet Processor.
You must configure the user-supplied terminal emulator to match the 'Console' port
settings.
See Sect. 9.1.1.1 for further details.
•
For Ethernet connection via Telnet Client – You must physically connect the User
PC's RJ-45 Ethernet/Network Interface Card port to the modem Packet Processor. This
connectivity can be via a local LAN using the modem's 'Ethernet 10/100 | Traffic 100' or
'M&C 100' BaseT Ethernet port, or remotely via a satellite link from another IP modem.
See Sect. 9.1.1.2 for further details.
