6.1 Instructions for EMC-compliant drive installation
The term second environment refers to all locations outside residential areas. These are
basically industrial areas which are powered from the medium-voltage network via their own
transformers.

Depending on the installation site and the drive power, four different categories are defined
in EN 61800-3 Ed.2 with regard to the limit values for interference emission and two
(operating) environments with regard to the requirements on interference immunity.

Definition of the first and second environments
Drive systems for rated voltages < 1,000 V for unlimited use in the first envi-
ronment
Stationary drive systems for rated voltages < 1,000 V for use in the second
environment. Use in the first environment is possible if the drive system is
distributed and installed by qualified personnel. The warning information
and installation instructions supplied by the manufacturer must be observed.
Drive systems for rated voltages < 1,000 V for exclusive use in the second
environment
Drive systems for rated voltages ≥ 1,000 V or for rated currents ≥ 400 A for
use in complex systems in the second environment
