At a configured time the TalkSwitch system will update its firmware and reboot. The status of
the update will be reported to the designated syslog and/or TFTP servers.
The steps required by the administrator to post the update files, and configure the TalkSwitch
units, TFTP server, and Syslog server, are described in the sections below.

Posting firmware update files on your server

After initial set-up (see sections below), updates will occur automatically whenever the
administrator posts new files on the TFTP server. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Download the latest firmware update compressed folder from the TalkSwitch website for
your region. The filename indicates the firmware version number for easy reference (e.g.
t611cv42_tftp.zip).
2. Extract the files in the folder to the appropriate directory or subdirectory on your TFTP
server. The contents are as follows:
README.TXT — Describes how to set up and use the TFTP firmware update feature, lists
the contents of the compressed file and provides instructions regarding how to edit the
INDEX.XML file to suit your needs.
INDEX.XML — Lists information about the files in a format used by TalkSwitch systems
to trigger and manage updates.
BBLOCK — The boot block is essential for proper startup of a TalkSwitch system.
FIRMWARE — The program that manages all TalkSwitch phone system features.
ADSI — Updates ADSI information on the TalkSwitch unit (this file rarely changes).
TALKSET — Contains firmware for the TalkSwitch TS-200 phone (this file rarely changes).
ENGLISH.TLP — American English prompt file.
BRITISH.TLP — International English prompt file.
FRENCH.TLP — French prompt file.
SPANISH.TLP — Spanish prompt file.
Note: TalkSwitch units will only download prompt (.TLP) files for languages previously
installed on the phone system.
3. If you need to suppress distribution of certain files, and/or alter which standard reboot
option the TalkSwitch unit will use after installing a firmware update, you will need to
create a new version of the INDEX.XML file. To do this:
a) Make a backup copy of INDEX.XML and rename it INDEX.BAK.
b) Edit INDEX.XML according to the instructions in the README.TXT file. When the edits are
complete SAVE them.
By default, TalkSwitch systems configured with the firmware auto update feature will
automatically download new files within an hour. Updates to language prompts take effect
immediately. If changes have been made to essential firmware, the unit(s) will reboot
according to the settings in the INDEX.XML file (by default at 3:00 a.m. local time).
