Planning an IP-DECT system
Ensure that the base station can see as much of the outdoor area to be covered as possible.
The number of obstacles between the base station and the covered area must be minimal.
Ensure that you perform a measurement to check how much coverage a base station provides
to the outdoor area.
Installing all the base stations in front of windows is not the ideal position to provide indoor
coverage. Normally, one or two base stations near a window are sufficient.
Lift
the client requires coverage in lifts, locate the base station close to the lift, preferably at the front
of the lift. A lift is usually surrounded on three sides by a reinforced lift shaft, and the front of the
lift is the only opening. Locating a base station in front of a lift is not the most ideal position for
planning coverage. You might require one or more extra base stations to provide coverage to a
lift. The same base station also provides coverage for the storey above and below the floor on
which you install the base station.
Stairwell
To provide coverage to a stairwell, analyze the type of stairwell, open or closed, and the
location, in a corner of the building or in the centre. In the context of the overall planning, you
can install the base station directly in the stairwell as a dedicated base station or in the vicinity of
a stairwell.
Toilet rooms
To provide coverage to a set of toilet rooms, analyze the the location, in a corner of the building
or in the centre. In the context of the overall planning, you can install the base station directly in
the toilet rooms as a dedicated base station or in the vicinity of the toilet rooms. Place the base
station where the base station can see as much as possible of the toilet room as wooden
entrance doors do not hamper signals. You might place the base station to also provide
coverage to as much of the rest of the floor as possible.
Maintenance shaft
The client might want coverage in other rooms in the building such as the maintenance rooms
and rooms for the lift and ventilation systems, which are generally on the roof or in the
basement. A well-positioned base station that is 20 to 30 metres at most from the room where
coverage is required provides sufficient coverage for the maintenance rooms on the top floor or
the basement.
