THERMOSTAT
3A
THERMOSTAT
REMOVAL
AND
INSTALLATION
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove
the parts in the numbered
sequence
shown in the figure.
3. Install
in the reverse
order
of removal.
1, Water hose
2~ Thermostat
cover
3. Gasket
4. 2 stage thermostat
Note
a) The jiggle
pin should
be on the upper
side.
b) Position
the hose clamp
in the original
location
on the hose and squeeze
it lightly
with
large
pliers
to ensure
a good
fit.
INSPECTION
Check the operation.
Replace
if necessary.
1, Visually
check
the valve to be sure it is air tight.
2. Place the thermostat
and a thermometer
in water,
gradually
increase the water temperature,
and then
check
the following:
(1) Valve opening
temperature
Sub-valve
63.5-86S"C
(182-188'F)
Main valve 66.5-89.5"C
(188-193OF)
(2) Full open lift
Sub-valve
1.5 mm
(0.06
in) or
more
at lOO"C
(212°F)
Main valve 8 mm
(0.31
in) or
more
at 100°C
(212OF)
(3) Valve closing
temperature
Sub-valve
60%
(176°F)
Main valve 83'C
(181OF)
