Adjustment of Drive Pinion Preload
1, Install the spacer.
2. Press the rear bearing on by using the
SST.
Caution
a) Press on until the force required suddenly
increases.
b)lnstall the spacer selected for the pinion
helght adjustment, taking care that the in-
stallation direction is correct.
3. Install the collapsible spacer.
4. Install the drive pinion assembly
5. Install the companion flange, and tighten the lock
nut.
Caution
Do not install the oil seal.
Tightening torque:
118-177 N.m (12-18 m-kg, 87-130 ft-lb)
6. Turn the companion flange by hand to seat the
bearing.
7. Measure the drive pinion preload.
If the specified preload can not be obtained, re-
place the collapsible spacer with a'new one and
check again.
Preload:O.3-0.7 N.m
(3-7 cm-kg, 2.8-6.1 in-lb)
