10.2.2 Grounding regulation for print head cleaning
For technical reasons the ink of a continuous ink jet printer is charged with high voltage
during the printing process. In case of inappropriate handling the static charged ink may
be an ignition source. In combination with flammable ink and solvent this could pose a
fire or explosion hazard.
Without any safety measures the ink in the service tray may be charged up during
cleaning work. In order to avoid this critical situation the print head and the service tray
have to be connected with a ground cable. In case of using a service tray made of plastic
material it would be possible to place a metal foil in the service tray and connect the
ground cable to that foil.
