5-13-3. Using the Self-Diagnosis Mode
The following describes troubleshooting using the GY-8240 self-diagnosis function.

When this mode is set, normal operations of the unit are stopped, and the unit must be reset at the end. Be
sure to check the system (host computer connected) is not affected before executing this mode.
Perform this operation after checking that no cassette is loaded first.
If loaded, remove the cassette first.
1. Connecting the PC/workstation
a. Turn OFF the power of the GY-8240 and PC/workstation.
b. Connect the PC/workstation to the OPTION1 and OPTION2 ports on the rear of the GY-8240.
For details on pin assignment of the connector and connected connectors, refer to Section 1-5.
2. Activating the self-diagnosis mode
a. After activating the terminal emulator software of the PC/workstation, turn ON the power of the GY-
8240.
b. When "DIAG"" is entered from the PC/workstation, the prompt "DIAG=>" will be displayed.
. If the prompt is not displayed, check the setting (terminal side) and connection of the RS-232C
port.
If the setting and connection of the RS-232C port is normal, replace the IF board and then the FM
board.
. Entering "HELP"" displays the menu contents.
3. Executing all check
a. Entering "1"" as the menu number executes all checks which can be performed automatically in the
self-diagnosis, and displays the results.
b. If the check results are unsatisfactory, refer to "5-13-6. List of Self-Diagnosis Results Code and
Countermeasures" and perform the appropriate countermeasure.
4. Ending the self-diagnosis mode
Entering "quit"" ends the self-diagnosis mode.
