5-13-2. Acquiring logs

If errors occur in the GY-8240 during normal operations, and the GY-8240 stops, check the state when
the error occurred, and record all logs.

. Some information may be lost when the power is turned off while recording logs. In addition, opera-
tions performed to correct the error may also change the log contents in some cases.
Therefore record all logs before turning off the power and operating the unit.
(Unlike the GY-2120, operations of the unit and SCSI response will not stop in the GY-8240 while logs
are recorded.)
. Don't upload with use of the standard FTP program installed originally in Windows 98 system in order
to avoid any suspension of the file transmission.
Exceptionally, however, it can be using a free software available to set time out by setting it to infini-
tude.
As a regular updating tool, GYDIRCtrl.exe is recommended common to the GY series and DIR-240.
<Procedure for acquiring logs>
1. Connect the PC/workstation and GY-8240 OPTION-1 port. (Refer to Section 5-1-1.)
2. Set the communication procedure
. Communication baud rate: 38400 [bit/s]

When the screen saver or power management is operating, some log data may not be recorded.
Therefore set the standby time to execute the screen saver or power management to more than 30
minutes.
With the communication rate of 38400 bit/s, some data may not be recorded for some PCs and
workstations.
3. Check the ROM version
Set the PC/workstation to the ROM mode, and check the firmware version.
(Refer to Section 5-7 on the ROM mode.)
