Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm - 3094-
♦ Compressed air gun, commercially available
♦ Cooling System Tester - VAG1274- (and corresponding
adapter)
– Protect driver and passenger seat using seat cover.
– Turn the ignition on.
– On vehicles with electric seats, move these completely toward
rear.

– Switch off ignition.

– Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to ⇒ A/C System with
Refrigerant R134a; Rep. Gr. 87 ; Refrigerant Circuit (A/C Sys‐
tem with Refrigerant R134a; Refrigerant Circuit, Using Service
Station).
– Disconnect the negative terminal clamp from Battery - A- . ⇒
Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr. 27
Note
Before disconnecting the Battery - A- , obtain anti-theft radio

security code if necessary.
On vehicles with electrically adjustable seats, move the seats
♦
back as far as possible before disconnecting the Battery - A- .
– Release the pressure in coolant circuit by opening the cap on
the coolant expansion tank. Refer to ⇒ Engine Mechanical;
Rep. Gr. 19 .
– Remove fresh air intake shaft for A/C unit. Refer to
⇒ "5.3 A/C System Fresh Air Intake Shaft, Removing and In‐
stalling", page 55
– Remove the windshield wiper completely. Refer to ⇒ Electrical
Equipment; Rep. Gr. .
