– Mark the running direction of ribbed belt -E- using chalk, for
example.
– Release the tension on the ribbed belt -E- and remove it. Refer
to ⇒ Engine Mechanical; Rep. Gr. 13 ; Cylinder Block, Belt
Pulley Side .
– Remove the power steering pump and hang it on the side (only
on the 6-cylinder gasoline engine). Refer to ⇒ Suspension,
Wheels, Steering; Rep. Gr. 48 ; Power Steering Pump, Hy‐
draulic Pipes and Reservoir .
– Disconnect the connector to the Refrigerant Temperature
Sensor - G454- -2- (if equipped). Refer to
⇒ "15.5 Refrigerant Temperature Sensor G454 , Removing
and Installing", page 255
Note
Do not disconnect refrigerant lines -3- and -4- from compres‐
sor as long as refrigerant circuit remains charged (if, for ex‐
ample, intending only to loosen compressor from bracket).
If compressor is to be removed, first discharge refrigerant cir‐
cuit and only then disconnect refrigerant lines -3- and -4- from
compressor. Refer to

Do not bend, kink or stretch lines or hoses as refrigerant lines
and refrigerant hoses may be damaged.

– Pull coolant hose out of the retainer on the longitudinal mem‐
ber.
– Mark the connector to the A/C Compressor Regulator Valve -
N280- -1- (for example, because of danger of interchanging
with connector to electric engine mount).
Note
If connectors to A/C Compressor Regulator Valve - N280- and to
electric engine mount are interchanged, no DTC is entered in
DTC memory (the electrical values of these components are
about the same), however the evaporator may ice-up since the
compressor is actuated continuously.
– Unscrew three bolts -arrows-.
– Remove the A/C compressor toward the left wheel housing
(on the 6-cylinder TDI engine) or toward the front (on 6-cylin‐
der gasoline engine).
