14.1.1

Test Requirements

♦ The coolant circuit has been bled according to the specifica‐
tions. Refer to
⇒ "7 Coolant Circuit, Bleeding", page 78
Engine Mechanical; Rep. Gr. 19
♦ All air ducts, covers and seals OK and properly fitted
♦ Air flow through dust and pollen filter (in front A/C unit) is not
impaired by soiling (for removing and installing dust and pollen
filter, refer to
⇒ "9.35 Dust and Pollen Filter, Removing and Installing", page
169
).
♦ The vehicle battery ( Battery - A- ) is OK and sufficiently charg‐
ed (so that Energy Management Control Module - J644- does
not shut off activation of the Climatronic Control Module -
J255- front A/C control head and Rear A/C Display Control

♦ The engine is warm.
♦ The DTC memory of the Climatronic Control Module - J255-
front A/C control head (and of Rear A/C Display Control Head
- E265- ) was checked and erased, basic setting was per‐
formed and coding of the Climatronic Control Module - J255-
front A/C control head was checked. Use the Vehicle
Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
♦ The adaptation of the Climatronic Control Module - J255- front
A/C control head (and Rear A/C Display Control Head - E265- )
was checked. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Gui‐
ded Fault Finding" function.
♦ The vehicle is not exposed to sunlight.
14.1.2
Functionality, Checking
– Close hood.
– Close doors, windows and sun roof.
– Start engine and let it run a few minutes at maximum cooling
performance (compressor is switched on, temperature prese‐
lect "LO" for left and right sides at front and if necessary at rear,
or temperature preselect rotary switch stands at "cold" stop).
– Switch off ignition.
– On vehicles with "Comfort" version A/C system, connect the
Vehicle Diagnostic Tester with the Diagnostic Cable -
VAS5051/5A- to 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) in vehicle
with ignition switched off and select heating/A/C electronics.
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Find‐
ing" function.
– Start the engine.
The Climatronic Control Module - J255- front A/C control head
(and Rear A/C Display Control Head - E265- ) starts up.
