– Remove the bolts -A-.
– Disconnect the refrigerant lines -B- and -C-.
Note
Illustration shows the arrangement on a 6-cylinder engine.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
– Replace the O-ring seals -D- and -E-. For the correct version,
refer to the Parts Catalog.
– Tighten the bolts -A- and -B- to 20 Nm.

Do not use the O-Rings from the shipping caps that are in‐
stalled on the connections of replacement compressor when
installing lines.
Coat the O-ring seals lightly with refrigerant oil prior to instal‐
lation. Refer to
⇒ "3.6 Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals", page 26
Following attachment of refrigerant pipes to compressor (and
installation of compressor) check routing of pipes. They must
be inserted in holders provided and not make contact with
other components.
On vehicles with a 6-cylinder TDI engine from MY 2012, an
additional chafe protection -A- is installed on the low pressure
refrigerant line -B- as a running change. Make sure that the
installation position for the chafe protection -A- to the air pipe
-C- is correct.
On vehicles in which a low pressure refrigerant line -B- is in‐
stalled without chafe protection -A-, check the low pressure
refrigerant line -B- for damage. Install the chafe protection
-A- if necessary. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
– Evacuate and refill the refrigerant circuit. Refer to ⇒ A/C Sys‐
tem with Refrigerant R134a; Rep. Gr. 87 ; Refrigerant Circuit
(A/C System with Refrigerant R134a; Refrigerant Circuit, Us‐
ing Service Station).
– Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Re‐
fer to

Observe the information regarding operating the A/C system after
filling. Refer to ⇒ A/C System with Refrigerant R134a; Rep. Gr.
