A/C Compressor, 6-Cylinder, Removing
and Installing on Bracket
Note
Do not loosen refrigerant lines.

An A/C compressor on a 6-cylinder TDI vehicle is shown in the

illustration. On other 6-cylinder engine versions, the arrange‐
ment differs only slightly from this illustration. Refer to ⇒

Side (for example, different refrigerant lines. Refer to the Parts
Catalog, or no Refrigerant Temperature Sensor - G454- in‐
stalled. Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting and Com‐
ponent locations)
Depending on version of vehicle, it may be necessary to push

aside or disconnect individual hose lines that are routed in the
vicinity of the compressor.
As opposed to the description below, the compressor can also
♦
be removed upward when refrigerant circuit has been dis‐
charged on vehicles with 6-cylinder TDI engine. However,
before removal upward, the power steering pump must be re‐
moved (refer to ⇒ Suspension, Wheels, Steering; Rep. Gr.
48 ; Power Steering Pump, Hydraulic Pipes and Reservoir )
and the refrigerant lines disconnected from compressor. Refer
to
⇒ "15.3 Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting from Compressor
and Connecting", page 250
Removing
– Remove the noise insulation. Refer to ⇒ Body Exterior; Rep.
Gr. 66 ; Underbody Trim Panels .
– Remove left front wheel housing liner (6-cylinder TDI engine
only). Refer to ⇒ Body Exterior; Rep. Gr. 66 ; Wheel Housing
Liners .
– Remove the air guide hose (only on the 6-cylinder TDI engine)
