Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -
Z35- , Checking
Installed only on certain vehicles with a 6-cylinder TDI engine,
from MY 2009. Refer to Audi Sales Program.
Note
Vehicles with a diesel engine through MY 2008 always have
a fuel-driven auxiliary heater. Refer to
⇒ "8.5 Testing the Fuel-Driven Auxiliary Heater", page 90
From MY 2009, certain vehicles with a 6-cylinder TDI engine
without an "auxiliary heater", have an auxiliary heater heating
element - Z35- installed depending on the emissions standard
(running change depending on the engine). On vehicles with
an auxiliary heater heating element -Z35- , the fuel-driven
auxiliary heater is being discontinued.
At this time, no additional heater is installed in vehicles with
gasoline engine, for example parking heater is not activated
as an auxiliary heater.
On vehicles with a diesel engine and the optional "parking
heater" without an Auxiliary Heater Heating Element - Z35-
installed, the parking heater takes on the function of auxiliary
heater and works as a fuel-driven auxiliary heater (the parking
heater sends thermal energy to the coolant).
The electrical auxiliary heater (the Auxiliary Heater Heating
Element - Z35- ) is activated via the respective engine control
module (the control modules exchange information about this
via the data bus system). Refer to Wiring diagrams, Trouble‐
shooting and Component locations and use the Vehicle Diag‐
nostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
The measured value block for the Climatronic Control Module
- J255- front A/C control head indicates if the auxiliary heater
(electric or fuel driven auxiliary heater or the "auxiliary heater"
function of the parking heater) is switched on or why it is not
activated despite the low ambient temperature. Use the Vehi‐
cle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
Check the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element - Z35- activation.
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Find‐
ing" function (for the engine installed in the vehicle).
For removing and installing the Auxiliary Heater Heating Ele‐
ment - Z35- , refer to
⇒ "9.19 Auxiliary Heater Heating Element Z35 , Removing and
Installing", page 140
From MY 2011, this vehicle has a Start/Stop System for spe‐
cific engines as optional equipment. In vehicles with a start-
stop system, the auxiliary heater heating element -Z35-
activation is switched off when the stop function is active (to
protect the Battery - A- ). The setting for the activation of the
auxiliary heater heating element -Z35- remains stored in the
climatronic control module -J255- . After the engine is started
again by the Start function, seat heating and ventilation is
switched on again. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the
"Guided Fault Finding" function.
