Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - Edition 04.2013
Note
On vehicles with "Comfort" version A/C system, the specified
temperatures themselves can be measured or read out via the
"Read measuring value block" function. Use the Vehicle Di‐
agnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
If the vehicle has a "Basis" A/C system, the specified temper‐
atures must be measured manually. The vehicle does not
have a temperature sensor for this. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic
Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
14.1
Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50-
( Water Pump - V36- ) Functionality,
Checking
⇒ "14.1.1 Test Requirements", page 235
⇒ "14.1.2 Functionality, Checking", page 235
In this test, the functionality of the Coolant Recirculation Pump -
V50- (of the Water Pump - V36- ) will be checked.
Note
On vehicles with a Start/Stop system, the Coolant Recirculation
Pump - V50- is turned on by the climatronic control module -J255-
during the stop function when it is necessary to heat the passen‐
ger compartment. In the case of poor heating output when the
Stop Function is active on these vehicles, check the coolant re‐
circulation pump -V50- functionality. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic
Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
♦ If the determined temperatures lie below the specification
(heating performance too low):
– Check functionality of control motors for temperature doors
and their connections to the temperature doors as well as
Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- (and Water Pump - V36- ).
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Find‐
ing" function.
– On vehicles from MY 2014 with a Coolant Shut-Off Valve -
N82- (not installed on all vehicles), check the actuation and
functionality of the valve -N82- (for the component location,
refer to
⇒ "6.5 Coolant Shut-Off Valve N82 , Removing and Installing",
page 75
).
If no malfunctions are detected:
– Check the coolant hoses (from engine via the Coolant Recir‐
culation Pump - V50- (the Water Pump - V36- ) to heater cores
in front and rear and A/C units for interchange. Refer to
⇒ "6 Incorporation of the A/C System in Vehicle Coolant Cir‐
cuit", page 66
, ⇒ Parking/Auxiliary Heater; Rep. Gr. 82 and
⇒ Engine Mechanical; Rep. Gr. 19 .
– Check the electrical contacts of Coolant Recirculation Pump -
V50- (of Water Pump - V36- ) for interchange (running direc‐
tion of pump changes when connections are interchanged).
Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component lo‐
cations
– On vehicles with parking/auxiliary heater, check activation of
the Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- as well as incorporation
of the parking/auxiliary heater into the coolant circuit. Refer to
234
Rep. Gr.87 - Air Conditioning
