Note
The Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- is currently not instal‐
led on all vehicles. On vehicles with a 6-cylinder gasoline
engine, the Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- is installed only
on vehicles with the "parking heater" optional equipment.
Depending on vehicle equipment, the Coolant Recirculation
Pump - V50- is actuated by the respective engine control mod‐
ule and by the Climatronic Control Module - J255- front A/C
control head (for example, via the Coolant Circulation Pump
Relay - J151- ). Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting
and Component locations. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
On vehicles with 6-cylinder gasoline engine without the "park‐
ing heater" optional equipment, the Water Pump - V36- is
installed instead of the Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- . It
is actuated, for example, via the Recirculation Pump Relay -
J160- . Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting and Com‐
ponent locations. Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester via the
"Guided Fault Finding" function.
On vehicles with a parking/auxiliary heater, the Coolant Re‐
circulation Pump - V50- is incorporated into the parking/auxil‐
iary heater hosing.
On vehicles with a Start/Stop system, the Coolant Recircula‐
tion Pump - V50- is turned on by the climatronic control module
-J255- during the stop function when it is necessary to heat
the passenger compartment. Pay attention to the correct mod‐
el, coding and adaptation for the Climatronic Control Module
- J255- front A/C control head for these vehicles. Use the Ve‐
hicle Diagnostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
On vehicles from MY 2011 with a diesel engine and with the
start/stop system without the optional "auxiliary heater" (with
a fuel-driven auxiliary heater or an Auxiliary Heater Heating
Element - Z35- ), a Heater Coolant Shut-Off Valve - N279- may
be installed in addition. In the case that the heating output on

and Activation of the Heater Coolant Shut-Off Valve -N279- .
Refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component
locations). For vehicles with an auxiliary heater heating ele‐
ment -Z35- , the heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- is acti‐
vated via a relay (for example, via the Engine Coolant Shut-
Off Valve Relay - J541- ) from the Climatronic Control Module
- J255- front A/C control head. Refer to Wiring diagrams, Trou‐
bleshooting and Component locations. Use the Vehicle Diag‐
nostic Tester via the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
For a complaint of "poor heating performance", check before re‐
moving the Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- (the Water Pump
- V36- ).
– The incorporation into coolant circuit (correct connection of
coolant hoses at supply and return to engine). Refer to

cuit", page 66
.
– Wiring to Coolant Pump - V50- (of Coolant Pump - V36- ) for
interchange ("+" and "-"). Refer to Wiring diagrams, Trouble‐
shooting and Component locations.
– The actuation of the Coolant Recirculation Pump - V50- (of the
Water Pump - V36- ) by the Climatronic Control Module - J255-
front A/C control head via the respective relay. Refer to Wiring
diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component locations. Use the
